Shift scheduling for healthcare teams
Keep clinics and wards safely staffed around the clock. Enforce minimum rest between shifts, cap consecutive days, and manage on-call rotations while honoring every approved leave request.
Safe coverage, every hour of the day
Patient safety doesn't pause overnight. Jadwala keeps every ward covered while protecting the people who staff it.

Nights and weekends are hardest to cover
Jadwala fills every shift around the clock — days, nights, and weekends — so no ward is left thin. You see coverage gaps before the week begins, not when the shift starts.

Fatigue rules are easy to breach by accident
Minimum rest between shifts and caps on consecutive days are enforced automatically. Jadwala simply won't build a roster that overworks your team, so compliance is the default, not an afterthought.

On-call feels like it always lands on the same people
On-call and rotations are shared fairly across the team, and every approved leave request is honored. Staff trust the rota because they can see the load is spread evenly.
The scheduling problem in clinics & healthcare
Healthcare coverage can't lapse. Wards and clinics need the right clinical roles present every hour of every day, including the nights and weekends nobody volunteers for. A single uncovered shift isn't an inconvenience — it's a patient-safety and compliance risk.
At the same time, you have to protect the people providing that care. Minimum rest between shifts, caps on consecutive days, and fair on-call rotation aren't optional niceties — they're how you avoid fatigue, burnout, and the errors that follow. Balancing round-the-clock coverage against safe working limits by hand, across a large team, is genuinely hard.
Rota leads also carry the mental load of every exception at once — a swap that must not break a rest rule, a training day, a nurse who can only work certain shifts. Holding all of that in a spreadsheet, week after week, is exhausting and easy to get wrong in ways that only surface at 3am.
How Jadwala keeps every ward covered
Jadwala builds rotas that hold your coverage and your safety rules at the same time, so compliance is the default rather than something you audit after the fact.
Around-the-clock coverage
Define the clinical roles and minimum numbers each shift needs — days, nights, and weekends — and Jadwala fills every slot, surfacing any gap before the week starts.
Fatigue rules enforced
Minimum rest between shifts and caps on consecutive days are hard constraints. Jadwala simply won't build a roster that overworks a member of staff.
Fair on-call rotation
On-call and unpopular shifts are shared evenly across the team, and every approved leave request is honoured, so the load is visibly balanced.
A worked example: a clinic on 3 shifts
Consider a clinic covering three shifts a day — morning, evening, and night — with a team of nurses and required rest between shifts.
- Coverage: at least 2 nurses on days and evenings, 1 on nights, every day of the week.
- Constraints: minimum 11 hours rest between shifts; no more than 5 consecutive working days.
- Goal: cover all 21 weekly shifts while keeping on-call and nights fairly spread.

Healthcare scheduling FAQs
Can Jadwala enforce minimum rest between shifts?
Yes. You set the minimum rest period and Jadwala treats it as a hard rule — it won't schedule anyone with less rest than your policy allows.
Does it handle night and weekend coverage fairly?
Yes. Jadwala spreads nights, weekends, and on-call evenly across the team and keeps a running count, so the same people aren't repeatedly assigned the hardest shifts.
How are leave requests handled?
Approved time off is treated as an absolute constraint. Jadwala builds the roster around it and won't schedule someone on approved leave.
Can it cap consecutive working days?
Yes. Set a maximum number of consecutive days and Jadwala keeps every schedule within it automatically.
Does it support different clinical roles and qualifications?
Yes. Each shift defines the roles it requires and how many of each, and every staff member is marked with the roles they are qualified for. The optimizer treats this as a hard rule — no one is ever assigned to a role they aren't qualified to fill.
Can Jadwala handle on-call rotations separately from regular shifts?
Jadwala doesn't have a dedicated on-call shift type yet. Teams model on-call as regular shifts, and the optimizer treats them like any other: night, weekend, and total-hours fairness spreading applies, and the hard rest and consecutive-day rules make sure on-call never quietly pushes someone past a safe limit.
